My topic is censorship in the media.  I’m going to do this in a powerpoint presentation. First, i would tell the history of censorship.  Then I want to explain how has impacted the media.  Does America have the freedom of speech? I have found some books that I would like to use in my presentation.  Censorship by Kate Burns, Censorship, Inc. : The Corporate Threat to Free Speech in the United States by Lawrence Soley and More Than A Movie : Ethics in Entertainment by F. Miguel Valenti

Sex and the Media

Posted by: redsmc on: October 27, 2008

Are the youth learning about sex from the media? It seems like everywhere you look, there is a sexual image on TV. Whether it be a half naked women or people talking dirty, it seems like sex is all over the media.  But does the youth learn about sex from the media? With so many images of sex in the media, it is hard not to avoid these images. Should these images be taken away or would that take away our freedom of speech?

New Favorite Show

Posted by: redsmc on: October 14, 2008

My new favorite show is Dexter on Showtime. Since I don’t get Showtime, i watch it online and rent the DVDs.  The show is about a Miami police forensics expert who is also a serial killer.  He only kills people that he believes have escaped justice.  If you like something different, then you should check out this show!

These images are from the chapel at Saint Mary’s College.  Light plays a big role in these images.  The sun is right behind the chapel in the top picture and the light in the second picture in right on the person. The light highlights the important aspects of the picture.  I took these pictures look up at the image.

Does the media determine what is beautiful?  It seems like the media determines what is considered beautiful from the images they show.  In our culture, thin, tall and blonde is what is considered beautiful. What about the other women who are not like that? Are they not beautiful?

Do people really care about Paris Hilton?

Posted by: redsmc on: October 2, 2008

I have not seen the show yet, but there is a new show called Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.  Why does she have another show? I have seen the previews and all she is doing is making people do whatever she says. What has she really done other than a sex tape to make her famous?  I don’t think she has any talent, other than acting stupid (which she is really good at!)  Are people really interested in her?  Please tell me what you think!

Critical “Essay”

What website do most people look at to connect with their friends, meet new people and express themselves?  One of the most popular websites is myspace.com.  This website is available to anyone, free of charge, to create their own page on the Internet.  With over two hundred million users, a lot of different voices are heard all around the world.

Before you even log in to your home page, you see the main MySpace website.  This is where they have large ads covering with page with bright images and videos.  Everyone has to see this page before they log in to their personal page.  That means millions of people see these ads everyday.  The ad that is on the page now is for MySpace music.  They have a video on the right had side to show all the different artists that are on MySpace.  From Nelly to Iggy Pop, you can find their personal page on MySpace and interact with them.

Why place ads all over the main home page for MySpace?  Million of people have to look at these ads before logging on.  Out of the millions of people that look at this page, someone is going to be interested in the product and may even buy the product.  The ads are constantly changing; sometimes they change everyday.   For the loyal costumers of MySpace,  they are helping other companies by looking at their ads and buying their products.
